My grandma recently moved to a beautiful, new home. She's had friends and family ask if they could help decorate, but she kept telling them, "No, Caley's going to help me." I felt so honored. We spent a few hours yesterday pulling things from boxes, finding treasures, making piles of things we wanted to use, or not use; and making the front area look good. I wish I had all day to do the whole house, but it gives me a good excuse to make the drive back sometime soon! ;)
Here's the front room and dining room from the front door.
BEFORE
Dining Room: AFTER
These two frames over the dining room buffet are from my great-grandfather when they lived in Japan. The one on the left is a silk print and the one on the right is a photograph. Grandma said it may have been taken by her father, but she wasn't sure. I loved these on the blue/grey wall. The frames popped and the photos were amazing! Below we placed my grandma and grandpa's photos from their dating years, lanterns with the same golds as the frames, a Bible, a Christus statue, and a floral. The colors and stories of each individual piece make this wall a keepsake.
Next we worked on a collage for over the piano.
We wanted to incorporate some of the same colors that we used over the buffet table because they are next to each other. This one took us a while to get it right...but we finally got it. The key was to repeat the different types of frames at least twice to pull them all together. Also, repeating the blue was key...
Piano Wall: AFTER
Here is the collage on the wall. I love how it incorporates everything about my family: a photo of a pioneer handcart company, Christ, the Family Proclamation, my grandparents, our name and a group photo. Eventually we'll get the top of the piano finished...
Couldn't help but share this photo:
It's Grandma's Wall of Fame! All the kids, grandkids, and grandparents together! This one was also tricky getting everything that everyone wanted incorporated (as well as getting it all on the wall) but it turned out great too! (I promise it hangs straight on the wall, I just took a quick snap-shot and didn't take the time to make sure it was straight in the camera...oops!)
