New Blog Design with Stripes

Lauren and I were roommates my freshman year of college. She is one of the sweetest girls I know. Her family grew by one last year and little Simone is super adorable, don't you think? It was fun to do something a little different that I usually do. I made the blue stripe and instantly thought "Lauren".
I'm so happy she loves it!

New Blog & Design: "Will There Be FOOD There?"

Tiffanie and I have been friends since high school. If you know anything about Tiff, you know that she loves food! She's an awesome cook and after many requests for recipes, she decided to publish them all in one place: Will There Be FOOD There? {She used to ask her mom that question when she was growing up...no matter where they were headed. So funny!}

I was excited when she asked me to help her with the design and functionality of her new blog! She loves girly colors and wanted a fun, yet simple look. With a splash of color for the background and a bit in the headers and sidebar, most of the attention can be focused on the actual posts.

I am so excited for her new adventure and to try out some of her amazing dishes! Today is the big debut...would you go check her out and give her some love for me? She's a little nervous about it all...

New Blog Design: Run-Style-Run

Brandi and I met back in our teenage days through some mutual friends. She recently started an adorable lifestyle blog that includes some fashion, workout tips, thrifting treasures, and more. Brandi was looking for a new "look" that was elegantly simple, that included feminine colors and fonts, but also had a sense of "strong" for the "run" parts. I'm so happy she loves it!

She's also a certified personal trainer and has run five marathons! I can't wait to see how her blog grows in the future! Visit Run Style Run, enter her giveaway, learn some new things, and be excited for what's to come!

Blog Design Makeover for Outnumbered 4-1

Before...

After...

This little family just announced that their new ratio is going to be 4-1...boys for the win! ;) Since it had been nearly 2 years since their last blog design, we decided it was time for a brand, new look! We added a cheery yellow textured background, a darker sidebar to contrast with the body as well as to frame the welcome photo, and created some "about" pages for each member of the family. Quite a difference from the "before" look. I'm so glad Kayleen loves it!

Blog Design Makeover for Emily's World

Before...

After...

Sometimes I just love a clean, simple, white blog...it allows the focus to be on the content instead of what's around it. Thanks for letting me redesign your blog, Emily!

New Blog Design: Cute Family of Four

The Groesbeck family were neighbors of ours in college. Since then, they've doubled in size! Aren't their little girls so cute? Abbey was looking for a fresh, new look using their new family photos. She wanted to include them in her header without using one big photo, so we created a whimsical look with  a few circles and fun fonts. The bright colors with grays accents pulls all the colors, patterns, and photos together creating a cohesive composition.

New Blog Design for Mini Bazaar

I recently finished designing and organizing a simple and chic blog for Mini Bazaar. For those in the South Eastern Idaho area, you probably know about this adorable boutique near the Snake River in Idaho Falls. Although they had a website, they were looking for something that they could update more frequently about their newest arrivals, events, and news about their store. {That's one great thing about blogs!}

We brainstormed and developed a look for their blog that reflects the beautiful work done by their graphic designer and photographer Geri Egbert. We took her tree design and use of patterned "tape" strips and created a fun, chic, feminine look for their new blog! I'm so glad they love it!

Speaking of Geri, for those in Idaho, I would love it so much if you would join us at a fundraising event held in her family's honor. Her husband, Jason, has cystic fibrosis and is need of a double lung transplant. Both of their families live in our area and we would love to see your beautiful faces. For more information visit www.goteamjason.com. See you there!

New Blog Design: Dear WhollyMoe,

I've been working with Gayla and Kelley for the last little while to develop their new blog: Dear WhollyMoe. They were looking for something professional, yet feminine. They were inspired by HowDoesShe's site and I was honored to help them.

We went with a darker background that would allow the columns to pop and give separation to the different areas of the blog. Having the sidebar gray helps the readers eyes to first focus on the new post and then the information on the right. We added a cursive font in pink to add that feminine detail that they were looking for. Along with the design, I also helped them organize their needs in a way so readers could easily find what they are looking for. I also helped link their site to other networks like facebook and pinterest.

Gayla has years of experience as a personal trainer and is here to share her tips, tricks, recipes, workouts, and more to help you become your best self! Visit http://www.dearwhollymoe.com/ and give them some love!

Blog Redesign Winner: Life in My Heels

I had such a great time working with Sheena to redesign her adorable blog. During the makeover we realized that we both graduated from BYU-Idaho's Interior Design program, just a few years apart! Small world, right?

Sheena was looking for a simple, 3 column layout with pops of bright colors. I could tell she liked pink from her awesome purse in her family picture, so I added a pop of teal to go with it. I'm so happy that she loved how it turned out! Sheena also runs Queens of Green, a company focused on living healthily!

Thanks for being so great to work with Sheena!
And thank you to all those who participated in the giveaway!

New Blog Designs! And Why Yellow is Perfect for Your Blog!

Yellow is considered a bright, warm, or cheery color! It is also considered to be an "attention grabbing" color due to the high amount of light that is reflected from it. Gold is a toned version of yellow and is a beautiful complimentary to nearly every other color.

It's also super trendy...did you know that Honey Gold is one of Pantone's fashion colors for 2012? I can't lie, it's one of my favorites right now, especially for spring and summer!

Check out these recently designed yellow/gold blogs...

Vintage Market is an adorable shop that is open one weekend a year to sell the cutest furniture and decor. My aunt and cousins are very talented ladies! You don't want miss out on this one!

The Benson family was one of two winners of the last blog makeover giveaway. I love how it turned out! Aren't they an adorable family!

>> Does your blog include yellow or gold? If so, I'd love to see how you incorporated it! Please share a link to your blog in the comments! I love discovering new blog friends!

Basic Blogger How-To + Tips to Look Legit

Over this past year, blogger has updated it's interface to a fresh, clean, new look. (If yours hasn't changed, look for an "update" notice/button when you log-in).

I promise it isn't as intimidating as it looks. It's actually a lot better than it used to be...it's a lot easier to find what you're looking for.

Because I've had a quite a few questions on how to do certain things, I decided to create a basic blogger tutorial for you! Click to enlarge the photo and if you want a printable version to write on or file, email me and I'll send it your way! Hope this answers some of your questions!

PS The best way to get familiar with the new template customizing page is to just play with it. Go ahead, click on new templates, new backgrounds, new fonts...it can't hurt to see what it looks like. It doesn't apply to your blog until you click the orange button! BUT don't click it until you're absolutely sure that's what you want!

A Few Tips to Make Your Blog Look Legit!
  • Simple is Better. While it is fun to have cute backgrounds, buttons, headers, and so forth, don't get carried away. A busy looking blog can be distracting for readers. Decide what is most important and make that the focal point (it should usually be your posts.) Do this by simplifying all the other aspects of your blog.
  • Font Overload. There are some pretty awesome fonts these days. I could not choose a favorite if you made me. ;) BUT that's not a reason to use them all. The general rule for fonts is to not use more than two, three at the most.
    • Decide on 2 main fonts. Select the easiest to read (i.e. arial, georgia, helvetica, century gothic) for the body of your blog. Then use the other as the date, gadget, or post titles. This allows for personality, but also lets your readers actually read the text. There's nothing worse than going to a blog and giving up after the first sentence because you can't read it.
  • Pictures Speak How Many Words? Photography is a beautiful thing. It captures moments, tells stories, evokes emotion, brings back memories, and much more. You don't have to have a fancy camera to take a good photo. You also don't have to have a perfect photo to blog. But in today's busy world, most readers are skimming their favorite blogs, not necessarily reading them. Photos allow readers to stay updated without spending a lot of time reading. That's why it's a good idea to include a few photos in your posts.
    • Once you have those beautiful photos, make them BIG! In the template designer under "adjust widths" it allows you to widen your blog enough to make those photos big enough to see what's going on! When writing your posts, click on the photos you've uploaded and choose "x-large". I promise it will be worth it. ;)
  • Tabs/Pages. This is one of my favorite aspects of the new blogger. These are the little words under my header that allows you to learn more about me, visit my facebook page, etc. They can help clean up your sidebars by taking those many photos, stories, and buttons and organizing them into categories under your tabs. It's also much easier for readers to navigate through.
  • Searching. You can add the actual "search this blog" gadget, or assign labels to each post and list those. Simple searching is a big plus for readers to find more information, photos, or projects that you've accomplished.

I hope I've answered some of your questions today! Remember, simple is best when designing your blog and make those photos at x-large! :)

Leave a comment if this answered your questions, you have a question, or just want to say hi! Thanks!
