The texture ball challenge actually started back in 2006 for me...in my first interior design class. As part of our study of the design elements and principles we were required to make a "texture ball". Since then, my love of texture has only increased.
A few of my friends from the interior design program decided to relive that fun project and challenged each other to a redo. We gave each other a $5 limit and a deadline, just like in school. :)
I can't lie...my first one was a flop. Just know that crushed shells and rubber cement doesn't come off skin very well, at all. Thank goodness my mother-in-law had some scraps of burlap she let me use because I had already used up my $5.
I think I like this one better anyway...
The Burlap Texture Ball
What you'll need: burlap, scissors, a hot glue gun, a pencil (to keep the glue off your fingers), and, of course, a styrofoam ball.
To begin: Cut the burlap into 1"x1" squares.
Gather all four corners in your fingers...
...flip it around and add some hot glue to the center point.
Press it into the ball, hold for a few seconds, then take the pencil and push into the ball until it cools.
Continue until you cover the entire ball.
And that's it! A simple, beautiful, naturalistic, decorative, textural ball.
