This past semester I had the opportunity to be an adjunct professor for a lighting class at the Interior Design Department at Brigham Young University - Idaho. It was bitter sweet because the professor was very ill and had to take some time off, but because I had been his assistant previously I was able to step in and help out the department in their time of need.
It was such a great experience to be able to give back to the department that has blessed me so much. I was able to gain a better understanding of the importance of lighting in Interior Design as well as get to know some great students.
A few things I learned:
-The importance of energy efficient lighting
-The importance of the CRI {color rendering index}
-The different applications of lighting {general, task, accent}
-The difference a good, planned out, lighting design makes
{Don't worry, I learned all these things when I took the class myself, but preparing lesson plans to teach others helped me learn so much more!}
Since beginning this position I have become more aware of the lighting designs around me. I have fallen in love with lighting fixtures, especially this style:
