This past weekend I had the opportunity to visit the remains of my grandfather's home when he was a child. Although it was falling apart, it was fascinating to see the remaining details that gave me a glimpse into the past. From the moldings around the doors, the scraps of wallpaper, the paint colors in the parent's room, to the arched hallways and hinges, each detail told a story to my soul about my family's past.
My grandfather grew up in a place called Cub River ID. My grandma said that they owned to tops of all the hills around the homestead. Here is a photo from a couple miles away. The homestead is in that group of trees near the middle of the photo, so the land they once owned is pretty much everything you see here.
Isn't it beautiful? Those yellow patches are all wild sunflowers!
The front of the home. In front of the biggest hole on the left was once a porch that went across the entire front of the house. The front door was off to the right of the porch, the kitchen area through the left big whole and the entry/living area on the right.
I'm not sure what happened to this side of the home, but the colors are cool!

Here is the view from the top of the stairs. There were 14 kids in my grandfather's family, he was one of the many middle children. All the kids slept upstairs divided between the 3 small bedrooms.

How grateful I am for the opportunity to see in person and take photos of the home before it was torn apart. I would encourage you to rediscover your family's past and photograph it before changes!
